I’m dying to bring it to the garden/park wedding I’m creating in a few weeks so new photos might be added soon. watch your kiddies little toes these are 2×4’s people!! play with your shoes on and watch those little’s around the game. If you want to see Brook Walker from Studio 5 Playing Jenga during our segment then just click HERE (I know we are hard core)!! You keep building up stories until it topples over and that person has to be the one to set it up for round two. if you try to push back a piece that you moved other than your block you are disqualified. Then one person at a time will remove one block, we play that you can use both hands becuase the blocks are so big but you can only touch the one piece. In other words each story goes the opposite way until your out of blocks. To set up the game, Stack all of the blocks in levels of three placed next to each other along their long sides and at a right angle to the previous level. So worth it for the years of outdoor fun!Ī classic Jenga game consists of 54, finished hard wood blocks. This game was by far the easiest one to make but the most heavy and will require a large Rubbermaid to haul it around in. I used Minwax you can find it on Amazon HERE or I’m sure any home improvement store might have it as well. We clamp a belt sander to a table and turn it on, viola I just have to stand there and hold the boards against the running sand paper! My hubby brilliant I know.ģ.The board might be to rough to slide well under that amount of pressure, so I waxed each top and bottom piece so that they would slide easly out. Here is how you make your own giant Jengaġ.cut your 2×4 into 11 inch pieces making sure all the pieces are the same size so you don’t get a wonky tower! you can get 69 pieces if your careful although you only nee 54 or less depending on how tall you want your tower.Ģ.sand the edges, like my other wood projects I have my cute hubby set up a make shift sanding station. So the game Jenga was born in 1982 and here is how you make your own blown up version of this game!Ĥ 2x4x16 this will make 72 you really don’t need that many Now I found that fascinating that its not an ancient African game, but really if you think about it we have been building with blocks from the beginning of time. Jenga was created by Leslie Scott, the co-founder of Oxford Games Ltd, based on a game that she played with her family in the early 1970s using children’s wood building blocks the family purchased from a sawmill in Takoradi, Ghana. I did have to talk my hubby into cutting all the wood for me, but he much rather cut wood than weed the garden so I took the garden and he got out his saw. I love the indoor small version of Jenga anyway so this giant DIY was going on my summer to do list. Make a giant Jenga game from 2×4’s, seriously guys its so easy and one of the funnest games I’ve played outside in a long time. RODRIGUEZ, JULIET WILLIAMS and ROBERT JABLON, Associated Press Chris Farnitano said that while local cases have gone up since Thanksgiving, the county has one of the highest vaccination rates in the state, and hospitalizations are far below levels seen during the past summer, as well as those in many other counties.OLGA R. “None of it makes sense,” Zachreson said, suggesting Newsom was showing favoritism to San Francisco, where he once served as mayor.Ĭontra Costa County Health Officer Dr. The exceptions for the few Bay Area counties drew some sarcasm on Twitter from Jonathan Zachreson, of Roseville, a parent activist who has criticized the state’s school closures and masks requirements during the pandemic. State health officials said COVID-19 cases have increased 47% and hospitalizations 14% since Thanksgiving as the highly contagious delta variant continues to spread and the even more transmissible omicron variant gains a foothold. Several counties in October reinstated the requirement, citing rising cases and concerns about worsening outbreaks over the winter. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in May that the vaccinated no longer needed to mask up in most indoor public settings, with the exception of public transit, schools, shelters, prisons and jails and health care facilities, California kept its rule in place through June 15 of this year. Gavin Newsom first announced a statewide requirement for everyone to wear face coverings in indoor public settings in June 2020. 2, said it would now comply with the state’s indoor mask requirement for all. Marin County, which met the criteria and lifted its indoor mask mandate Nov. San Francisco, Alameda and Contra Costa counties then subsequently added the exception for fully vaccinated people in gyms and workplaces. In early August, seven of the nine Bay Area County health departments reinstated indoor mask mandates that could only be changed if certain criteria were met regarding local case rates, hospitalizations and vaccination rates. “This refinement acknowledges the hard work of the people of San Francisco throughout the pandemic, including the ways in which we have maintained reasonable protections heading into the holiday season,” San Francisco’s Department of Public Health said in a statement late Tuesday.Īlameda County Department of Public Health public information manager Neetu Balram added that county residents “will not experience any differences in policy.”Ĭontra Costa County said because of its local rule, “the new statewide masking mandate doesn’t affect us and we will retain limited exceptions for certain indoor settings not open to the general public such as offices and gyms where everyone is vaccinated.” The dueling mask rules come as the Golden State is experiencing a bump in new COVID-19 cases and bracing for a possible new wave of infections from the highly contagious omicron variant. Local rules will remain in place in San Francisco, Alameda and Contra Costa counties, which already had orders that allowed masks to come off indoors in certain controlled settings with a small, stable group of fully vaccinated people - such as workspaces and gyms. But the state is cutting breaks in some cases to a few Bay Area counties for those who have had the shots. Starting Wednesday, California once again is requiring everyone from toddlers on up to wear face masks in all indoor public settings - regardless of vaccination against COVID-19. In fact, CogniFit has a wide range of scientific studies of the highest scientific quality (Shah et al., 2017) on healthy people or people with a disorder, and CogniFit studies are almost the only ones whose trainings produce significant effect sizes (Nguyen et al., 2021). In the Horowitz-Kraus (2013) study, it was observed that CogniFit cognitive training had an impact on both executive functions and reading literacy in ADHD children with and without reading problems. While more research is needed to confirm the long-term benefits of using video games to treat neurological problems, this study provides preliminary evidence that cognitive training with brain games like CogniFit can improve symptoms in children with ADHD and possibly other cognitive deficits. "One of the problems we have with medications is that they don't help with all the symptoms of ADHD, and they don't help with the everyday executive function deficits that people with ADHD have". Our app has been used on millions of devices and the reviews indicate it has been helpful to the group of people who test their skills regularly. Some studies suggest that they may, while others indicate that the benefits are limited. While playing brain games may help improve certain cognitive abilities like concentration and focus, it's not clear whether they actually make people smarter or increase knowledge retention. The answer to this question is a little more complicated. When you get better at something it gets easier to do, but not with our training regiment! When you get better at brain training games it gets harder and harder, pushing yourself to improve your cognitive response to the stimuli. Think of CogniFit like a workout for your most complex muscle, your brain. (2008), "The effects of cognitive training on working memory are task specific and transferable." Remember this.Īccording to the Six Days in Fallujah website, the game “recreates true stories of Marines, Soldiers, and Iraqi civilians during the toughest urban battle since 1968″. Recognising bias? That’s much more complicated, because bias can be conspicuous, subtle, or ambiguous. It’s not a moral failure, it’s basic Intro To, Like, Reality 101. The victors writers of games, movies, TV shows, books, and those racist conspiracy theory memes copy-pasted from Facebook that grampy sends on WhatsApp have zero responsibility to tell the facts. If we assume it’s based on actual events, that’s on you and me.Īnd don’t get me wrong, it is on you and me. So what? This isn’t the news at 10, and besides, that’s not exempt from bias either. You wouldn’t know that watching this movie, though. By the end of the war, the Royal Navy had captured thirteen, the US Navy had captured one. The US Navy didn’t even capture an Enigma machine until 1944. The first Enigma machine was captured in 1941 by the Royal Navy’s HMS Bulldog, before the US even joined the war, and by the time of the movie’s “actual events”, cryptographers at Bletchley Park in England had busted the code. The movie is presented as based on actual events, but it’s not. I recently watched U-571, a 2000 movie starring Matthew McConaughey and Harvey Keitel about the very heroic patriots of the US Navy submarine crew who captured the first Enigma machine from a German submarine in 1943, one of the most consequential intel acquisitions of World War II. There’s a real Highway of Death, but this wasn’t that Highway of Death, the one that the US military bombed in 1991, it was the other Highway of Death, the made-up one the Russians bombed in a made-up game about a made-up war. The 2018 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot, for example, featured a “Highway of Death”. And games aren’t exempt from this kind of bias, from convenient omission of context to grossly disingenuous revisionism and political propaganda. It depends who you ask, but we’re reminded that “history is written by the victors” so often, it’s become an almost meaningless cliché, the obligatory disclaimer to be ignored in service of DEMOCRACY, McDonald’s franchise expansion, and corporate marketing budgets. The game is expected to launch this holiday season. Studio boss Peter Tamte opened his new company Victura in 2016, and signed up Highwire Games as the new developer. But unlike the estimated 800 or so men, women, and kids who were killed during Operation Phantom Fury, whether by bad white phosphorous or totally legal freedom bullets, Six Days in Fallujah wouldn’t die. By most accounts, the game was cancelled. Original publisher Konami dumped it almost immediately in response to criticism from UK veterans and the Stop the War Coalition, and having failed to shop the project out to other publishers, Atomic Games went bankrupt in 2011. The US military denied that it used white phosphorous against civilians, obviously, but confirmed that it was used against enemy combatants, because apparently it’s super easy to tell the difference. Operation Phantom Fury included US and UK military personnel, so that’s awkward. The US military is permitted to use this in certain, specific circumstances but not against civilians, and the UK military is not permitted to use it against civilians or enemy combatants for any reason, ever, or even be involved in a conflict that uses it. Much like the game’s status from 2009 until now, however, it depends who you ask. The premise itself was inevitably controversial, because so was the entire Iraq War, but also because so was Operation Phantom Fury – this time, because the US military was accused of using white phosphorous, a chemical weapon, against civilians. The game is based on the actual events (maybe, but I’ll get back to that in a moment) in 2004 of the Second Battle of Fallujah, code-named “Operation Phantom Fury”, as described in interviews with developer Atomic Games by “over 70” US Marines and other military officials, and Iraqi soldiers and civilians. First announced in 2009, subsequently cancelled or not cancelled, it depends who you ask but it’s mostly irrelevant now, anyway, because it was re-announced in 2021, Six Days in Fallujah is a controversial game. Each class is unique, but how you go about building your class is identical. This is standard stuff, but Diablo 2 Resurrected feels off.Ĭombat is boring for starters. Do this enough times, kill Diablo, spank his brother and then do it again on a harder difficulty level. You run around with your character, hit things with sticks and magic until cool stuff drops, you level up, and you explore dungeons and progress the story. I am no longer blind to this game’s design, however.įirst off, gameplay. Diablo 3 gets a bad reputation, but Diablo 3 improves upon practically every issue I have with Diablo 2, and it took a remake of Diablo 2 to reveal that truth. This game is a nostalgia trip for people who lived during the times of dial-up, and that’s about it. The game is dated, bland, and lacks the depth and nuance the genre has developed in the last 21 years. Dated, Bland, Boringĭiablo 2 has not stood the test of time. For everyone else, it’s time to get real. If that’s all you wanted to know – if you know what Diablo 2 is, and you want it injected into your veins, then this is all you need. It’s a great feature, but man, Diablo 2 hurts the brain to look at in motion, let me tell you. Similar to the Master Chief Collection or R-Type Dimensions, you can even change the graphical style on the fly, and check out what Diablo 2 looked like, seamlessly. Animations are spot on, character designs are mostly ripped straight from the original, with a few changes for the modern visual palette here and there. It’s so close, that when I was playing, it looked like what I thought Diablo 2 looked like, 21 years ago. The sticks eerily close to Diablo 2’s original themes and style. The final splooge icing on the Resurrected cake is the graphics. Considering how throw-away they are, I am sure you can grasp just how loyal this remake is to the original vision. There’s more, but those two are the ones that stand out as being the most significant. This includes a shared storage chest and a quick bar. There are some changes, but these are so bafflingly minor in the grand scheme that they can probably just be called iddy-biddy-diably quality of life(y) changes. Heck, this is Diablo 2 with a free expansion that made Diablo 2 bigger. In a world where the word remake is loosely defined as a mostly unrelated game that feeds off nostalgia to tell an objectively worse tale (looking at you Final Fantasy), Diablo 2 Resurrected stands alone. Now that all of that spiel is out of the way, how is Resurrected? If all you want from your Diablo 2 remake is an almost shot-for-shot, near-perfect replica of a 21-year-old game, that boy, do I have good news for you. A global phenomenon that, before Resurrected’s release, cemented Diablo 2 as one of the greatest games of all time, and the best game in its genre. Diablo fever was so strong that it was at a dangerously high level of addiction right up until Diablo 3’s release, which took over a decade to land. Put it this way only a handful of games have ever had genres named after them. Gold so pristine, that there was a measurable dip in the global workforce.ĭiablo 2 is so well known and held in such high regard, some people still call the genre in which it resides, Diablo-like. It took the pioneering aspects of Diablo, which in turn took its inspiration from Baldur’s Gate, which in turn absorbed the entirety of Dungeons and Dragons (tangent ends here) and made pure gold. There was one other little series that was released during this era, and that’s Diablo. These games pioneered an entire genre and, in some cases, are still best in class. We got Starcraft, Warcraft 1-3, Frozen Throne, and World of Warcraft. This period was known as the Blizzard Golden Age, and let me tell you straight, that is one of the most accurately named periods ever. This might shock some of you younger gamers out there, but, did you know, once upon a time Blizzard wasn’t known for ruining Warcraft 3 and abusing their staff? I know, a totally ‘out there’ concept, but it’s true. Despite being a bit slow, the axe is extremely powerful and doesn’t require manually aiming like the hammer. This is why you’ll want to run the axe or gauntlets whenever possible. Inversely, the hammer hits like a truck but the long wind up makes it impractical against most fast-moving enemies. Even though the sword and dagger have fast attack speed, their lack of damage and range can make taking on multiple targets quite difficult. There are five weapon archetypes in Cult of the Lamb, but the axe and gauntlets are the two best in the game. The Axe and Gauntlets Are the Best Weapons – Cult of the Lamb Tips As for weapons, you can tell when a path leads to the blacksmith by the hanging swords, daggers, and axes over the path. This will dictate where Clauneck is located, allowing you to safely acquire new tarot cards. When approaching a path to another room look for hanging stars and a moon over the entrance. Thankfully, there is an easy way to determine where Clauneck is lurking. Tarot cards are the key to surviving in Cult of the Lamb’s dungeons, so it’s critical you locate them when going from room to room. Look For Hanging Stars in Dungeons – Cult of the Lamb Tips This is perfect for quickly taking out ranged foes or just not taking any damage. However, you can actually dodge any orb projectile by just rolling through it. You Can Dodge Projectiles By Rolling Through Them – Cult of the Lamb Tipsĭid you know you can actually dodge most projectiles by just rolling through them? Players assume the role of a lamb who was rescued by a mysterious entity and instructed to build a following in its name. Developed by Massive Monster, this game is a mix of the base builder and rogue-lite genres. Don your cloak, break out your ceremonial knife, and get ready to sacrifice a heretic to an elder god because Cult of the Lamb is here. |
